The 21st Bomb Squadron was one of the original squadrons of the 30th Bombardment Group, serving with distinction in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Operating the rugged Consolidated B-24 Liberator, the 21st became known for its aggressive bombing missions against Japanese airfields, shipping, supply routes, and fortified island positions as Allied forces advanced across the Pacific.

The squadron earned recognition for its relentless low-level attacks and strategic bombing operations throughout New Guinea, the Philippines, and later Okinawa. Flying from primitive forward airfields under harsh tropical conditions, crews often faced intense anti-aircraft fire, dangerous weather, and long overwater missions deep into enemy territory. Like many Pacific bomber units, the squadron developed a reputation for toughness, adaptability, and endurance while operating far from established supply lines.
